Mash Ups
Whew! Just finished semester 2. Another interesting subject: Mashups. I added Caestecker library to map-builder after watching the directions. I'm happy to say I'm the first at our library because it wasn't there already. My mind is blank right now as to how to use mash-ups for our library but it's nice to know that it exists. Thanks Project Play for all the time you put into this. I think it was a very useful course.

YouTube
I just learned how to embed a video into my blog! Cool, I feel so professional.
When searching Youtube I was a little overwhelmed, so many videos out there. It clearly was going to take time and patience to find the videos I was interested in. Then I remembered that I had seen a few videos in some of the blogs I now follow - yea, they did the editing for me.
I see this a neat tool for libraries to put on their website. When creating one, I see that you definitely need a creative eye in writing it and putting it together. The other thought is "youtube video of the week", where you could feature a new video every so often on the library web site and promote it so people come to check in often.
Thank you to the creators of Project Play. I have played and learned! Thanks.

screencasts
Another good idea to walk you through different computer applications. I think it would be nice if we could create a library of computer tutorials such as Excel and even Word, I know I don't use all the bells and whistles because I don't even know they are there.
Podcasts
Podcasts are another way to chain you to your computer!! Seriously, they're great but for busy people it is a guilty pleasure. I think it would be great on a library website, I liked the idea of putting a speaker on although would this not encourage live attendance?

Taking the library into web 2.o
I just got a comment from one of our librarians about using some of these web 2.0 skills we're learning, for the library's good! I'm excited because I'd like to be on the brainstorming end but not on the implimenting end. Marykay, I'll be in touch.

My Space
I just visited 3 library's myspace sites. Denver's was specifically designed for teens including music and YouTube video. I see the advantages of connecting to people where they are and would be interested to talk to those you use myspace if they think libraries are invading their "space". I'm a board member for a small library and my head is just starting to swim with all that is available out there and how libraries can use it to serve the public. I see merit in all these web 2.o things so far but also think libraries should have a game plan and a computer librarian who can really think it all through and present it to the director as to what is needed. And I'm glad I'm not that person!

Remember the Milk
Hey, pretty cool, this Remember the Milk thing. I sent the email now I am waiting patiently to see if it came through and then I will edit it. I don't see how I might use this now but I can see how great it would be for people in an office working on the same project. Also, Jott seems to have a lot of possibilities. Unfortuanately, I am one of the few people left on this earth that does not have a phone, so for me it's just easier to literally jot it down.

google docs
Week 2 and trying to get done but I've been foiled trying to get into google docs. I left a comment on our Project Play page for more info to get into our shared doc. What a great idea for businesses. I don't see the need to use it myself but my kids might be able to use it when going back and forth from home to school working on a project.
IM
Better Late than Never... Just now starting on week 1. I have signed up for AIM but after successfully finding a screen name it wouldn't let me continue. I will try later. I did IM Stef even though she wasn't on line, so it was just a message, but was surprised when I hit enter that it sent it. Yes, I know it tells you that but who reads all the direction? Now on to week 2.
